Gomorrah marked the beginning of the long collaboration between Dalia Colli and Matteo Garrone. Inspired by Roberto Saviano’s book, the film interweaves five stories within the Camorra system while refusing to glamourise organised crime. Dalia Colli’s makeup contributes to this direct, almost documentary perspective: the faces remain real, ordinary and shaped by their environment and living conditions. This essential character work supports the film’s uncompromising realism, which earned Gomorrah the Grand Prix at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
