In Greenery Will Bloom Again, Ermanno Olmi concentrates the horror of the First World War into a single night in 1917, spent by a group of soldiers in the snow-covered trenches of the Asiago Plateau. As Makeup Department Head and Makeup Designer, Dalia Colli helped make the cold, hunger, fear and endless waiting physically visible. The character work remains restrained and deeply realistic, respecting Olmi’s human perspective and the memory of the young men overwhelmed by war.
