The Armadillo’s Prophecy
Directed by Emanuele Scaringi
In The Armadillo’s Prophecy, Zerocalcare’s visual world takes physical form in Zero’s everyday Rome, suspended between precarious work, friendship and memory. To bring his unwieldy alter ego to life, Dalia Colli contributed to the concept and production supervision of the Armadillo’s practical SFX, performed by Valerio Aprea. The mask, teeth and heavy shell create a deliberately handcrafted creature that recalls 1980s fantasy cinema while preserving the irony of the original character. Makeup therefore operates on two levels: it keeps the film’s human world authentic and makes an impossible presence believable at the heart of Emanuele Scaringi’s story.
